In line with the mandate of the Youth Center Division, Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education to build the capacity of out-of-school youth to lead a responsible life and considering the immense success and impact made in the lives of the participants who attended similar trainings conducted by the regional Youth Centers (YCs) and Youth Friendly Integrated Service Centers (YFISCs) in the past years, the Changji ji Youth Center under ThimThrom conducted a 5-day capacity development training for NEET “Not in Education, Employment and Training” adolescents and youth from November 2-6, 2020 at the Thimphu YFISC. The main objective of the training program was to equip the participants with soft skills necessary to cope with their daily life and introduce them to various employment/training opportunities available in the market. The training also looked at how to link young participants with relevant employers or Training Institutes based on their career interests and aspirations. Further, due to COVID-19 Pandemic a significant number of young Bhutanese were left unemployed including recent college graduates, overseas returnees and laid off workers, thus, this training provided them with a platform to develop new skills and knowledge for alternative employment opportunities.
The sessions for the training program were facilitated by the professionals from relevant agencies and organizations including those from MoLHR, Loden Foundation, RMA, Financial Institutes, CSOs, Private Sectors and other agencies. A total of 41 (11 male & 30 female) NEET adolescents and youth attended the training program. Similar training program will be conducted at Paro from November 16-20, 2020. This program is supported by UNICEF Bhutan.
